Antique & Fragile Furniture Delivery

Packaging — what you need to know before booking

Leave it to us, or pack it yourself — here’s what to expect either way.

If it’s left unpacked

We pad and secure it

Moving blankets and straps, included at no extra cost. Suits solid, assembled furniture — cabinets, tables, clocks — well.

If you package it yourself

Go for the proper job

Plastic or bubble wrap alone isn’t enough — proper wrapping, boxing or crating keeps it covered under your tier.

We don’t run a dedicated packaging or crating service ourselves, which is why we recommend pairing us with a specialist for anything exceptionally fragile — glass, ceramics, veneer inlay, loose or detachable parts, or pieces of significant value. Moving blankets and straps protect solid, assembled furniture well; museum-grade or delicate pieces do best with bespoke crating first.

Insurance and damage cover

Here’s exactly what’s protected at each tier.

  • Eco: No damage cover
  • Eco Plus: Up to £100
  • Standard: Up to £300
  • Premium & First Class: Full value — whichever is lower, the cost of repairing the item or what it was worth immediately before we collected it

There is no fee for making a claim on any plan. Report damage to the crew at delivery, then follow up by email to [email protected].

Two things apply regardless of tier: genuinely fragile items (glass, ceramics, loose or detachable parts) sit outside damage cover — standard across the courier industry, which is why we recommend specialist crating for these before we collect — and a restored antique (previously repaired, glued or structurally altered) travels at the owner’s risk, since there’s no reliable way to assess a prior repair’s strength in transit.

If your antique is one-of-a-kind, irreplaceable, or worth more than a standard household item, weigh these limits against a specialist antique carrier’s insurance terms before choosing between the two. Full detail is in our terms and conditions.

Frequently asked questions

A two-person courier crew that pads and secures the item with moving blankets and straps, on a service that’s upfront about its insurance limits. That covers solid, assembled antiques well — cabinets, dressers, tables, clocks. For genuinely fragile items (glass, ceramics, loose or detachable parts) or anything of exceptional value, arrange specialist crating before collection, since standard cover doesn’t extend to them regardless of courier.

Yes. Proovia Couriers delivers antique and vintage furniture — cabinets, clocks, mirrors, tables and similar pieces — UK-wide with a two-person crew on every tier. For genuinely fragile items such as glass or ceramics, see the packaging and insurance notes on this page before booking.

Solid, assembled antique furniture — cabinets, dressers, tables, clocks, mirrors, church pews and similar pieces — is handled the same way as any other large item, with a two-person crew and moving blankets. Genuinely fragile items — glass, ceramics, veneer inlay, loose or detachable parts — need extra care with packaging and insurance.

No. Proovia doesn’t offer a packaging service. Unpacked items are padded and secured with moving blankets and straps at no extra cost. For pieces needing bespoke crating, arrange that with a specialist packer before collection.

It’s your choice. If it’s left unpacked, our crew will wrap it in moving blankets and secure it with straps. If you package it yourself, the packaging needs to be adequate — plastic or bubble wrap alone isn’t enough. Insufficiently packaged items aren’t covered by insurance.

Damage cover depends on the delivery tier, from none on Eco to Full Value (the lower of repair cost or item value) on Premium and First Class, subject to a £150 excess. Fragile items and items with prior repairs are excluded from cover at every tier and travel at the owner’s risk.

Previously broken, glued, repaired or structurally altered items aren’t covered by our damage cover and are transported entirely at the customer’s own risk.

Yes — the same collection process used for eBay and auction items applies. We collect directly from the auction house or seller, take photos at collection, and deliver anywhere on the UK mainland.

Pricing is per item and per tier — a grandfather clock starts from £88.18 on Eco, for example. Get an exact price with the online quote calculator.

Coverage is England, Wales and mainland Scotland. Northern Ireland isn’t served.
